Tips To Maintain Healthy Nails
The health and foundation of your nails is more important than you realize. Your nail health not only depends on your nail tech when getting them done but also you! Genetics and also your overall health play a part in your nails being healthy just like any other functioning part of your body.
You’re here because you may be wondering how you can grow out your natural nails or take care of your enhancements so they don’t cause you any damage. I’ll be sharing knowledge with you that you can implement today to ensure you keep your nails healthy and strong and also that’ll help you achieve your nail goals.
Cuticle Oil Please
Please tell me you’re using cuticle oil! I know you’re always seeing nail techs stress the importance of using cuticle oil and its not because they just want you to buy theirs. It’s because it helps promote nail growth and also helps your nails last longer. It creates a barrier that protects the nails and keeps them flexible and strong which prevents breakage.
Along with using your cuticle oil you should also grab a good hand cream and I don’t mean just a lotion. Hand creams are thicker in texture and have higher oil percentage in them where as lotions are thinner because of the high water content. Always opt for a good hand cream over a lotion. I prefer Niveas hand creams, which don’t leave my hands feeling oily at all but very hydrated.
Signs of Healthy Vs. Unhealthy nails
Your visible nails are actually dead, its a total myth whenever you hear that your nails need to breath. Instead take a look at the signs of what your nails may be saying to you from what you can visibly see. Are they hydrated properly or do they look dry? Nails that appear to have dents and ridges in them may be early signs of unhealthy nails and also health. It’s always best to check with a doctor if you do have concerns about your nails, as we know your nail tech can only tell you their professional nail related opinion. Nail techs are not able to diagnose you because they are not a doctor.
Ways to avoid creating unhealthy nails, would be not picking at the skin around the nails and also not picking off gel or acrylics. Whenever you peel off anything from your nails no matter the medium, you are actually taking layers of your nails off. Which will then lead to thinning of the nails. Another way to avoid unwanted damage to your nails is making sure you’re getting regular maintenance between services. The longer you go between services the more likely you can be to accidentally bump and break the nails or crack it in the middle.
I always suggest my clients get a rebalance every 2-3 weeks. I never recommend going longer than 4 weeks between services. To make sure we keep a healthy foundation, I always make sure my clients and I also soak their nails instead of ripping them off and I suggest a soak off every 4-5 fill.
Growing Your Nails
Strong healthy nails is possible for you but it will require some maintenance and minor upkeep. Keeping your nails done will help keep them strong because you’re adding a layer of strength with which ever medium you prefer such as gel, or acrylic. Use a base coat when doing nails at home which helps nails last longer and also improves longevity of polish.
Need help getting your nails back on track then I recommend using nail strengtheners. Keratin by CND can help rebuild unhealthy nails and also can be used at home and can be purchased in my storefront. Following a few of the suggested recommendations I made today for you brings you another step closer to healthier nails. If you have any nail concerns, drop them in the comments!
