Life As A Mom of 2
Hello beauty! Lincoln has finally made his debut, and he is so precious. I’m beyond blessed for how my husband loves and supports me and for the village we have around us.
If you’ve been following my pregnancy journey, you know this moment has been a long time coming, and I’m still in awe that he’s finally here. My labor and delivery were everything I prayed for and more. Things started moving along naturally, and I was able to dilate to 9 centimeters on my own before they decided to give me Pitocin to help things progress a little faster so we could finally meet our boy.
Right before delivery, my care team noticed I was running a slight fever, so they gave me antibiotics, not just to help bring my temperature down, but also to protect Lincoln. Thankfully, the medicine did its job, and before I knew it, it was time to push. Ten minutes later, our sweet boy made his grand entrance into the world.
The delivery itself was beautiful and calm, but things quickly took a turn when Lincoln started having some breathing difficulties shortly after birth. The NICU at Jefferson was already full, so he had to be transferred to another hospital 30 minutes away to get the care he needed. That moment… whew. It broke my heart to be separated from him so soon after delivering. After about 12 hours of being monitored and cleared at the hospital, I was discharged, and we went straight to be by our baby’s side, and we haven’t left since.
I’ll be opening up more about that part of our journey in another blog all about being a NICU mama, because that’s a whole testimony within itself. But what I will say is that God has truly been faithful. Every step, every update, every little improvement Lincoln has made has been nothing short of a blessing. Our boy is getting stronger every day, and we’re so grateful for the prayers, love, and support we’ve received.
Our doctor, Dr. Duvet, has been incredible from start to finish. She’s an hour and a half away from where we live, but I knew before I even got pregnant that I wanted to make sure I had a Black doctor. I’d seen her before for an annual appointment, and even when she moved practices, I knew I wanted to continue my care with her. As a Black woman, I’ve read and heard so many stories about how dangerous pregnancy and childbirth can be for us, and I wanted to make sure I had someone who understood that reality firsthand.
Dr. Duvet feels like a friend I’ve known forever, she’s caring, patient, and always makes me feel comfortable (even when I told her I had baboon booty 😂). If you’re unfamiliar with that term, consider yourself lucky, but don’t worry, I’ll be spilling all the details soon in my upcoming blog called “Things Women Keep a Secret in Pregnancy.”
Now, I know you came here to be nosey and see the BTS pictures of baby Lincoln, and I don’t blame you one bit because I would too! You came to the right place, and I’m so glad you’re here. Even though I’ll miss my cute little round belly, I can’t believe he’s finally here.
Being a mom is truly the greatest blessing in a woman’s life, and I’ll never stop thanking God for this beautiful life and the family I’ve built with my husband. We’re so grateful for this new chapter and so proud of how far our little miracle has come.
Welcome to the world, Lincoln Levi, you are so loved. 🥰
